Short time on the radio netted 37,968 miles per watt contact.

Last evening I had a very short time on the radio I was not expecting much as the conditions have not been stellar. I did find 20m to be very busy and not reflecting the solar conditions. On May 2nd I was able to work EA4DRV and last night I heard him on again calling CQ. I gave him a call and made the contact with only 100mW's for a miles per watt of 37,968! Shortly after my contact I heard him giving a report to fellow blogger Larry W2LJ. I was only able to hear Larry very faintly just above the noise level. I did do a little more fishing but time was tight and I had to shut things down for the evening. This evening I think I am going to throw the line out again and see how the fishing goes!

Hi Mike, conditions are not always what they look like. You never know how a signal bounces. Congrats with the nice QRPp contact. 73, Bas

Good morning Bas, it makes me think of the contacts that I missed out on by just checking the conditions and moving on to something other than radio.

Mike,

That's truly amazing! The astounding thing is you're using a basic "dipole" antenna which I find just fantastic! It doesn't get any better than that!

Congratulations !!

Good evening John, I hope all went well with the MRI today. Yes I to am very happy with the attic dipole and the contacts I get with it.

Nice contact Mike. By the way, my Hertz rental car was a canadian with Ontario plates. They were glad to get it further north, hi.

Good morning Dick, I guess the car's speedo was in KM's and with it being a Canadian car you may find yourself say "EH" and always saying "Sorry" and "Thank you". Well at least I hear we Canadians are known for saying these things.....sorry if I am mistaken and thanks for the comment!

Good evening Stefano, thanks very much but I understand from your blog the QRP bug has bitten as well.

Hello Mike,

I'm assuming you're back to work and the back problems have passed? I hope so! Take care and keep up the QRPp contacts.

Hi John, the back is getting there but I have to be very careful. I am working at a desk job for the short term. I am seeing chiro and Physio twice a week and taking it easy at home. If all goes well I will be back to 100% in a month or so. As with you radio takes my mind off things.
Have a nice weekend

Hello Mike,

I'm sorry to hear about that; as I think your injury must be worse that I originally thought. Twice a week for a month is quite a strain in the back. I'm assuming they're putting those "big" moist heating pads on you; along with a tens unit. Don't know if you're familiar with Yoga or not, but there are some poses which are very good for you; assuming you're at the point where you're able to do them. The "childs pose" is a good one for me along with the "up dog". The "up dog" strengthens and also flex's the back.

I hope you continue to make progress with the back. I can remember those days when I had to suffer at work. I used to spend my lunch hour stretched out in the storeroom on a cardboard box. Wearing a "back support" was helpful and I learned to use my legs instead of my back for lifting.

Well done Mike. I get far into Europe but have a lot of trouble getting into Spain. Maybe 700mW is too much and I should turn my power down. :o)
