Anonymous is getting very smart!

Happy to be back from the vet's
First off  I took a vacation day from work as I  had to take Oliver (our cat) to the vet for a followup after dental surgery and by the way looking back on my career decisions I should had been a veterinary dental surgeon! They do say hind sight is 20/20. Oh and for those wondering Oliver had a great checkup, he was ecstatic  to get out of the veterinary clinic and home. Some of the other time today was spent on the radio TRYING to make contact with TX5K. On all the bands I had absolutely no problem hearing the pileup trying their luck at making contact but I could not even hear TX5K!! On Saturday my wife has a hair appointment and a trip to the dentist.....no surgery just a checkup....BUT  in ham radio lingo what does XYL at the salon and dentist spell........RADIO TIME!!! So I am going to give TX5K another go before the DXexpedition is over. So why did I entitle this post "Anonymous is getting very smart!" In the past I had
maybe 2 or 3 "anonymous" postings a week. Now let me clarify what I mean my anonymous......these are advertisers trying to post a comment on my blog but the main idea is to plug their biz with a link! Blogger has been excellent with the ability to discern between the real deal anonymous comment and the...let me take advantage of your blog and plug my biz anonymous comment.  Over the last month I have noticed a large increase of anonymous comments (the take advantage type) trying to use my blog. Not sure why this is.....my blog can't be all that popular? I really don't care if they "try" to post their fake comments but what I have noticed is they must be getting smarter in how they word the comment. Blogger is  not recognizing it as spam but seeing it as a legit comment. These past couple of weeks I have had to go through my comment section of blogger and delete comment posts that are just plain spam! Has anyone else had this issue? Or do you have suggestions on how to deal with this?

I had a blog post last week that got 36 "anonymous" attempts at posting. Several made it but most did not. On my radio blog they are getting through everywhere, I may have to just disable anonymous posting. It's becoming a hassle.

I got the same problem Mike. Last couple of weeks the spam is increasing. Get about 5-10 spam posts a day at the moment. Last year it was just 1 or 2 a month. But I still don't want to use the captcha code as I think it is worse. Could disable anonymous posting though, I'm thinking of it. I didn't have time to work TX5K or an other DXpedition last weeks. Was looking for them this evening, but can't hear them. 73, Bas

Glad Oliver is doing well. A neighbor has the same breed. They look mad as hell but are, well, just pussy cats. If I ever had one that's the kitty I would chose.

Good evening Bas and nice to hear from you, I am with you mine have increased this past year as well. I don't want to move forward with the captcha as I just hate doing it so I don't want others to do it on my blog. As for not allowing anonymous I too am thinking about it too.
Have a nice weekend Bas

Dick it's always good to hear from you....how is France it must be so cool over there. When Julie and I head over to England next year we are going to take the tunnel to France! As for Oliver yes he does look at times like he wants to beat the hell out of someone. Julie and I love him to bits!! Oh and Dick it would be a fantastic choice of cats hands down.
Have a good weekend Dick

Hello Mike,

Glad to see the cat is back home and doing well. We have two of which one is a real predator. The other one is an angel and makes up for him. The dog keeps the "mean" one in check. Love them all three.

On the TX5K....don't think its going to happen here. 72's Good luck on the hunt tomorrow.

Hi Mike,

Glad the kitty is home, comfortable and doing well.

After reading your post, I have decided to disallow anonymous comments on my blog. Just in the past 24 hours I have had 25 spam comments show up in my "awaiting moderation" box that were actually spam. Between those and the spam comments that are legitimately detected as spam, I'm averaging about 50 a day.

Mike, my blog gets hardly any spam, but I don't allow comments from anonymous users. I only allow comments from Registered Users and I also have moderation on for comments to posts more than 2 days old.

Good morning John, Oliver is all by himself. This is a good thing as when my father in law's dog comes to visit there is an evil side to Oliver that comes out.
I am going to try TX5K again today and see what happens.

Good morning Larry, I don't get as much as you do but I too am going to do the same. In the past 6 months I have had very few non spam anonymous comments.

This comment just proves my point in that some spam comments make it through the Blogger filter. So Mr (or Mrs) anonymous good bye!!

Good to hear from you Julian, I am going to hit the comment section on my blog after this post and disallow anonymous comments. As for the time line for moderation I may hit 5 days instead of two. Thanks for the advice Julian and have a great weekend.
