Looked it up and seems like a good program to have. Thanks for the recommendation.
MikeVE9KK https://www.blogger.com/profile/04720839744779758420noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2968254002071870786.post-22606616393809788562014-04-07T05:21:23.182-04:002014-04-07T05:21:23.182-04:00Yep, Norton 360 is giving me headaches on an older...Yep, Norton 360 is giving me headaches on an older machine. I'm now running Avast on it. This thread was of interest for me as well, same reasons. I've had good luck with Norton over the years but I'm tired of paying big $$ for something I can achieve for free. I am also a big fan of Ghostery! My machine is running in admin mode and it can get frustrating when asked for the password and you have no idea what it is. Thanks for that piece of info and at this point I am running AVast and am considering upgrading to windows 7 as I am using XP at this time.
MikeVE9KK https://www.blogger.com/profile/04720839744779758420noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2968254002071870786.post-44194669514760687262014-04-06T08:29:45.955-04:002014-04-06T08:29:45.955-04:00I've used windows defender and security essent...I've used windows defender and security essentials. I've also tried avast! and avg. AVG worked fine, but they start sending you begging notices to renew and pay. Avast! did something to my system that forced a recovery for me. One bit of information that i read (grc.com "security now" episodes - VG) is that the first step one should take is to stop running in administrator mode on Windows. Somewhere between 92 and 100 percent of various threats to your computer can be prevented by simply keeping the os and major apps up to date and running in normal user (standard user?) mode. That, and using some common protections for your browser (no script, ghostery, etc.) should do the trick. It is sending up more "ads" lately, however, so I experimented with Avira (also free) on another computer, and though I can't say anything conclusive about it, it seems to cover the bases and stays out of my way.Casey Bahrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01638230726171327005noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2968254002071870786.post-12821313014679608812014-04-04T09:01:45.877-04:002014-04-04T09:01:45.877-04:00Hello Mike

Although it is not free like AVG etc., I find that it does work very well and is significantly cheaper than Norton 360 that dies a lot of things I do not need.

Another advantage is that one can deselect the annual renewal option and take advantage of special offers from other venders near renewal time and possibly save even more money.

Regards

Kevin G6UCYAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
