First thing I do is hit the Tune button and adjust the output slider so that the ALC is zero on my rig and power out is around 20 watts also as measured on the rig. Then click the CQ button which fills in the message box with CQ VA3ZC FN03 and hit the Enable transmit button when I'm ready to make a qso. If you don't hit the CQ button then it will send whatever was in the box.
